Costing - Things to think about

As an Indie Filmmaker I can be more inventive and resourceful with how I shoot each film with the limited budgets I usually work with.

However, this film will demand more than the usual micro budgets I work on.

The estimated budget for this film will be in the region of £25,000 to £30,000

Location / Scouting / Permits

Filming on location can be expensive, from renting a stately home to hiring an industrial unit to build interior sets, all of which will have regulations and restrictions placed on them.

Typically this could be anything from £100s to several thousand pounds a day.

Cast

Once you have a script you will need a cast to bring it to life.

Talent costs vary with experience, and will include agency fees.

A good casting agent/director could be as much as £2000

Costs will include accomodation, transportation, food and the number of filming days.

Crew

Just as important as the cast, these creative individuals work on a day rate, depending on experience this will be from £400 to £1000 a day.

My goal is to employ a percentage of about 80% female crew on this production.

Sound will general have their own equipment and so the cost will increase. Generally DOPs and camera operators will use what gear is on set, but can provide their own kit which may have an impact on their day rate, also the number of filming days has an impact.

Equipment

As a freelance filmmaker I have access to a lot of equipment, especially cameras, but some more specialised gear may be required, for example a steadicam operator and lighting rigs etc.

Indie filmmaker looking to utilise 80% female crew for this production.
